How does the eBay import match my existing inventory?
When you import from eBay, Flippd tries to link each eBay listing to an item you already track instead of creating a duplicate. Matching runs in this order:
Already linked — once a listing has been linked to a Flippd item (by a previous import or review), every future sync uses that link. A link only changes if you re-link the item yourself, or if eBay replaces the listing (a relist gets a new listing number and is followed to the same item). Items you originally imported from a spreadsheet that included the eBay Item ID are matched by that ID too.
SKU match — the SKU on your eBay listing is compared against your Flippd item's SKU. A match links the two automatically. SKUs are managed in Flippd on their own dedicated screen: Settings > SKU Settings.
Stock Number match — if the eBay SKU doesn't match a Flippd SKU, it's compared against your items' Stock Numbers (the identifier Flippd assigns to every item and prints on labels). Many sellers paste that label code into their eBay listings, so this links them automatically too. If that label is already on an item linked to a different eBay listing (reused custom labels), Flippd will not link it and sends the listing to review instead.
No match — what happens next depends on the Import review setting on the eBay integration screen. Review everything sends every imported listing to the review screen with AI-suggested matches based on the listing title, where you decide to merge or import as new. Smart (recommended) reviews everything on your first import into an account with existing inventory; from then on it auto-links matches at or above your Auto-link confidence (default 90%, adjustable between 50 and 100) and imports clearly-new listings itself. Fully automatic imports unmatched listings as new items without review.
Getting the Most Automatic Matches
On your eBay listings, fill in the SKU with the same SKU or Stock Number the item has in Flippd. You can do this in bulk from eBay Seller Hub. (Heads up: eBay calls its SKU field "Custom label" — that's eBay's name for its SKU box, unrelated to Flippd's custom fields.)
An exact match links straight away. If there is exactly one item whose SKU or Stock Number matches once spaces, dashes and letter case are ignored (
A-12,a12andA 12are treated as the same), that links automatically too; if several items could match, the listing goes to review. If your eBay SKUs are used for something else (like storage bin codes), they won't match — expect those listings on the review screen the first time, with AI suggestions to speed up the merging.
Good to Know
The first import on an account with existing inventory is the big one: everything that can't be matched waits for your review. After you've merged or imported them once, the links are remembered and future syncs are automatic.
Auto-link confidence on the eBay screen sets how sure the AI match has to be before a listing links without review. It only applies in Smart (recommended) and Fully automatic modes, and a listing auto-links only when exactly one item clears the bar — a tie goes to review.
SKU and Stock Number are different things in Flippd: Stock Numbers are auto-assigned to every item, while SKUs are your own identifiers configured under Settings > SKU Settings. The import matches on both.
Merging never overwrites your Flippd-only data — cost of goods, storage location, barcode, and source stay exactly as you entered them. See What does eBay sync update?
