Profit Calculator FAQ

How is reselling profit calculated?

Profit = Sale Price - Purchase Price - Platform Fees - Shipping Costs. Our calculator automatically applies the correct fee percentage for each platform, so you get an accurate estimate of your take-home profit.

What platform fees does this calculator include?

We include fees for eBay (13.25%), Poshmark (20% or $2.95), Mercari (10%), Facebook Marketplace (0%), Depop (10%), Etsy (6.5%), and many more. Fees are updated regularly when platforms change their rates.

What is a good profit margin for reselling?

Most successful resellers aim for 50-100% ROI (return on investment). A 30% profit margin is considered good, while 50%+ is excellent. However, margins vary by category - electronics often have lower margins while vintage clothing can have higher returns.

How do I calculate ROI (Return on Investment)?

ROI = (Net Profit ÷ Purchase Price) × 100%. For example, if you bought an item for $10 and made $15 profit after fees, your ROI is 150%. Our calculator shows this automatically for every calculation.

Should I include shipping costs in my calculations?

Yes! Shipping costs you pay (not what the buyer pays) should be included to get accurate profit. If you offer free shipping, enter your shipping cost. If the buyer pays shipping separately, enter $0 as your shipping cost.

Which platform has the lowest seller fees?

Facebook Marketplace and Vinted have 0% seller fees for local sales. Bonanza (3.5%) and Etsy (6.5%) have lower fees than major platforms. However, lower fees don't always mean more profit - consider audience size and item fit.

How accurate is this profit calculator?

Our calculator uses current platform fee rates and provides accurate estimates for standard transactions. Actual fees may vary slightly based on factors like eBay store subscriptions, promoted listings, or payment processing. Use custom fees for precise calculations.

Can I save or share my calculation?

Yes! Click the 'Share Results' button to copy a link with your calculation. The link includes all your inputs, so anyone who opens it will see the same numbers. Great for discussing deals with sourcing partners or getting advice.

eBay Fee Structure Explained

Final Value Fee

13.25% of the total sale price including shipping. This is eBay's main fee charged when your item sells.

Per-Order Fee

$0.30 per order for most categories. This fixed fee applies to each transaction.

Insertion Fees

First 250 listings free per month, then $0.35 per listing. Store subscribers get more free listings.

Tips to Reduce eBay Fees

Consider an eBay Store

If you sell 50+ items monthly, an eBay Store subscription can save you money with lower final value fees and more free listings.

Offer Free Shipping Strategically

Factor shipping costs into your item price. Free shipping can boost visibility and sales.

Price for Profit

Always calculate fees before listing. Know your minimum profitable price to avoid losing money.

eBay Fee Calculator FAQ

What is eBay's final value fee in 2026?

eBay's standard final value fee is 13.25% of the total sale amount (including shipping) plus $0.30 per order for most categories. Some categories like musical instruments and business equipment have lower rates around 6.35%.

Are eBay fees charged on shipping costs?

Yes, eBay's final value fee is calculated on the total amount paid by the buyer, which includes the item price plus any shipping charges you set. This is why many sellers build shipping costs into the item price and offer free shipping.

How many free listings do I get on eBay?

Without a store subscription, you get 250 free listings per month. eBay Store subscribers get significantly more: Starter stores get 250, Basic stores get 1,000, Premium stores get 10,000, and Anchor stores get 25,000 free listings monthly.

Is PayPal fee included in eBay fees?

eBay now uses Managed Payments, which replaced PayPal as the payment processor. The final value fee already includes payment processing, so there's no separate PayPal fee for eBay sales. Our calculator accounts for the current Managed Payments structure.

What categories have the lowest eBay fees?

Musical instruments, heavy equipment, and commercial vehicles have some of the lowest fees at around 6.35%. Books and media are also lower at around 14.6%. Most other categories fall under the standard 13.25% final value fee.

How do promoted listings fees work?

Promoted Listings is an optional advertising fee you can add to boost visibility. You choose an ad rate (typically 2-20%) that's only charged if the buyer clicks your promoted listing and purchases within 30 days. This is in addition to the standard final value fee.

Do I pay eBay fees if the buyer doesn't pay?

No, you don't pay final value fees on unpaid orders. If a buyer doesn't complete payment, you can open an unpaid item case after the payment due date. Once the case closes, any fees for that transaction are credited back to your account.

How does the eBay fee calculator work?

Enter your purchase price, selling price, and shipping cost. The calculator applies eBay's current fee structure (13.25% + $0.30) to show your exact fees and net profit. You can also compare results across multiple platforms to find the best place to sell.
