Etsy Fee Structure Explained

Listing Fee

$0.20 per listing, lasting four months or until the item sells. Multi-quantity listings are charged another $0.20 each time an additional unit sells and the listing auto-renews.

Transaction Fee

6.5% of the total order amount — including the item price, shipping charged to the buyer, and gift wrapping. This is Etsy's core selling fee.

Payment Processing & Offsite Ads

Etsy Payments charges US sellers 3% + $0.25 per order. If a sale comes from an Offsite Ad, add 15% (or 12% for shops over $10,000/year in sales, where the program is mandatory).

Tips to Reduce Etsy Fees

Build All Four Fees Into Your Price

Listing + transaction + processing typically lands around 10-11% plus $0.45 on a modest order. Price with the full stack in mind — not just the 6.5% everyone remembers.

Watch the Offsite Ads Threshold

Once your shop passes $10,000 in trailing-12-month sales, Offsite Ads become mandatory at 12% per attributed sale. Factor that into margins as you grow — it can arrive as a surprise.

Track Renewal Fees on Slow Movers

A $0.20 listing fee sounds tiny, but items that renew every four months for a year cost $0.60+ before ever selling. Knowing per-item carrying costs shows which inventory deserves a price cut or a different platform.

Etsy Fee Calculator FAQ

How much does Etsy take from a $50 sale?

On a $50 US sale: $0.20 listing fee + $3.25 transaction fee (6.5%) + $1.75 payment processing (3% + $0.25) = $5.20, about 10.4% total. You keep $44.80 before item and shipping costs. If the sale came through an Offsite Ad, fees roughly double.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing fee both apply to the total the buyer pays, including shipping and gift wrap. Offering "free shipping" doesn't avoid this — it just moves the shipping cost into your item price.

Can resellers sell on Etsy?

Only in specific lanes: Etsy allows vintage items (20+ years old), handmade goods, and craft supplies. Reselling contemporary retail items isn't permitted. For vintage resellers, though, Etsy's 95M+ buyers actively searching for old and unique pieces make it one of the best-converting platforms.

What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?

Etsy advertises listings on Google, Facebook, and other channels. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and purchases within 30 days, you pay 15% of the order — or 12% if your shop made over $10,000 in the past 365 days, in which case participation is mandatory.
