Whatnot Fee Structure Explained
Seller Commission
8% of the sold price for most categories in the US. Some categories are lower: electronics are 5% and coins & money are 4%. The commission applies to the item's sold price, not shipping.
Payment Processing Fee
2.9% + $0.30 per order, charged on the full transaction value including shipping and taxes. This applies to every sale on top of the commission.
High-Value Order Promotion
Since January 2026, Whatnot charges 0% commission on the portion of a sale above $1,500 in select categories (extended to Bags & Accessories and Jewelry & Watches in June 2026). Standard payment processing still applies.
Tips to Keep More of Your Whatnot Sales
Set Auction Starts With Fees in Mind
Fast-moving $1 auction starts are great for engagement, but roughly 11% of each sale goes to fees. Know your break-even before the stream so hype never sells your inventory at a loss.
Pick Your Category Strategically
Commission varies by category — electronics pay 5% and coins & money pay 4% instead of the standard 8%. If your inventory fits a lower-rate category, listing it correctly saves real money.
Track Profit Per Stream, Not Just Sales
A big sales night can still be a low-profit night after fees, shipping supplies, and item costs. Tracking each item's cost basis and true net tells you which streams and categories actually earn.
